“Snug as a Bug” (2025) was created for the RE:ACT program, which promotes seatbelt safety among 17–25-year-olds. RE:ACT runs annual campaigns to raise road safety awareness, particularly targeting young people. For this project, the company wanted a unique billboard design that conveyed a positive message, reflecting their distinctive approach to promoting safety. Although my design wasn’t selected to be placed on billboards across Melbourne, it was chosen as one of the top three. I reimagined a well-known idiom with a playful twist to engage young audiences and encourage safe driving habits. I wanted to include an illustration in my design to give it personality and reflect my style, and this idiom provided the perfect opportunity. I created a cute bug character, shown wearing their seatbelt correctly. I used simple shading and bright colours to ensure contrast and legibility. I also focused heavily on typography, experimenting with point sizes and font families to achieve a bold design that would be easy to read from the freeway, while keeping the message clear and impactful.
